Just in Time, Goods Flow Effectively

¡@EMI started as a grain silo company. In early 1970, growing imports made traditional way of unloading bulk grains uneconomic and time consuming, which was usually accompanied by port congestion and ship demurrage incidences. In response, competent authorities encouraged the private sector to invest in the construction of automated silos and deep-water berths for promoting the integration of the transportation process of importing bulk grains. After years of solid operation, EMI began full-range wharfing services for the unloading of crops and coals. Currently, EMI is the only port service company that owns bulk cargo unloading facilities in northern, central and southern Taiwan .
¡@EMI currently operates four modernized grain silos which located separately in Wharf No. 1 and No. 3 of Taichung Port and Wharf No. 71 and 72 of Kaohsiung Port. The storage capacity of the four facilities is up to 330,000 metric tons. It occupies over 90% of market share and emerged as the leader in the industry. For expanding its operations in providing modern full-range port services, the company has constructed an automated coal unloading wharf in Keelung Port. In addition, it also jointly founded Kaohsiung Port Cargo Handling Services Corporation and Top Food Industry Corporation with numerous firms. The company will horizontally develop storage warehousing and vertically expand into distribution in order to augment its position as the largest port service and bulk cargo warehousing company in Taiwan .
