¡@¡@In 1975, the Taiwan Grains & Feeds Development Foundation responded to the government policy by rallying supports from the feed, plant oil, flour, wheat and cereal crops industries for the construction of silos near the deep-water berths. It was at this juncture that EMI was founded. In 1980 and 1981, the grain silos were established in Kaohsiung and Taichung Ports . In 1981, another pool of investment placed orders with the China Shipbuilding Corporation for the first Panamax size bulk carrier, and started business in marine transport.
¡@¡@After years of outstanding operation, the government approved EMI to list its stocks in Taiwan Stock Exchange from September 1995. To fully utilize capital from the international market, and support government policy in positioning it as the Operation Center in the Asia Pacific, the company established subsidiaries in Bermuda , Panama , Hong Kong and Germany . It actively got involved in the international market through foreign subsidiaries and became an international enterprise.
¡@¡@To maximize return on traditional industry, EMI put the ¡§development of value-added service and high asset return¡¨ as its core strategy and actively engaged in the diversification of its operation. In 1995, EMI officially went into the construction sector and launched a number of large land development programs. EMI also has made direct investment in Eastern Multimedia Co., Ltd. and Eastern Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (ETTV), which enabled EMI to establish its foothold in cable television and media technology. To further integrate its resources, EMI engaged in the trading of bulk cargo in 2000. Traditional concepts of business stability and customer priority, coupled with an innovative spirit in channel development, the company began in the trading business of consumer products in 2002 for higher value and future benefit of the company.
